Julie Madewell
Kashika Singh
Educator, Cook, & Cultural Storyteller
Kashika is a Teaching Professor of Hindi at Emory University and formerly served as a Senior Lecturer at Indiana University Bloomington. Born and raised in Varanasi, India, she grew up immersed in Ayurvedic traditions and seasonal living. Kashika shares her heritage through language, food, and storytelling, offering cooking sessions that connect students to the flavors and philosophies of Indian culture. Her approach is rooted in lived experience, self-study, and a deep reverence for the healing power of food and community.
Our Shared Path
Julie and Kashika met in 2014 at a workshop at Indiana University and have been friends ever since. Their shared love of teaching, cultural wisdom, and holistic living inspired them to co-create this retreat. Together, they are thrilled to offer Bloomington’s first Ayurveda and yoga lifestyle immersion—a weekend of nourishment, connection, and seasonal balance.
Yoga Teacher, Herbalist & Ayurveda Enthusiast
Julie is a Bloomington-based yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, budding herbalist, Ayurveda nutrition coach in training, and founder of Yoga Madewell and Ahimsa Botanicals. With a background in language education and a passion for seasonal living, she weaves together movement, mindfulness, and plant-based rituals to support holistic well-being. Julie taught Spanish at Indiana University for over 16 years and has traveled widely, bringing a deep appreciation for cultural traditions to her work. Her offerings reflect a commitment to accessible, heart-centered practices that honor the rhythms of nature.

Sacred Rhythm: Walking the Balanced Path
A 2-Day Retreat Rooted in Ayurveda and Yoga
Join us for a weekend immersion into the nourishing practices of Ayurveda and yoga, designed to help you reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom and the rhythms of nature. In this peaceful, supportive space, you’ll explore seasonal self-care, mindful movement, conscious nourishment, and the sacredness of rest and community.
What You'll Experience:
Over the course of two afternoons, you’ll:
Learn the foundational principles of Ayurveda, including the doshas, seasonal living, and daily self-care rituals like abhyanga (oil massage)
Enjoy chai, sattvic (nourishing/balancing) meals, and nourishing Ayurvedic snacks, with food as both ritual and medicine
Explore yoga philosophy, pranayama (breathwork), meditation, and gentle asana practices aligned with cooling and calming summer’s hot and intense energies
Reflect on rest as sacred, and the role of comfort and connection in our healing
Close the retreat with a celebratory meal, poetry, music, and sharing, honoring the journey we've taken together
No experience is necessary—only a willingness to slow down, listen inward, and walk the path of balance.
Your Registration Includes:
Full weekend retreat programming
Two days of Ayurvedic and yoga-based teachings and practices
Handouts and reflective materials to support continued learning
Ayurvedic snacks (Saturday & Sunday) and a closing seasonal meal on Sunday
Step into a weekend of replenishment, rooted in ancient wisdom and guided by the natural cycles of summer.
