Embrace wellness with Yoga Madewell
Hello! I’m Julie, and yoga has been a part of my life for over 20 years. Yoga began as a central part of my vibrant lifestyle in college. Over time, after facing several chronic illnesses, a severe back injury, persistent pain, and significant mobility challenges, yoga became something much deeper — a lifeline.
From periods of being largely bedridden to finding profound relief through daily practices like breathwork, meditation, and gentle movement, yoga has been central to my healing journey. Those experiences continue to shape how I approach teaching today.
I am a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructor currently working towards an additional 300-hour yoga teacher certification. I have successfully completed additional training in Accessible Yoga (40-hour certification) and Trauma-Informed Yoga (50-hour certification). I teach with an emphasis on accessibility, choice, and compassion, and I strive to create spaces where students feel supported rather than pushed.
My Teaching Philosophy
In my classes and sessions, yoga is offered as a practice of listening — to the body, the breath, and the nervous system. Rather than focusing on peak poses or rigid sequences, I prioritize presence, adaptability, and self-trust.
You can expect:
Clear, invitational language
Options for different bodies, abilities, and energy levels
Emphasis on breath, awareness, and nervous system regulation
Permission to rest, pause, or opt out at any time
A non-judgmental, non-performative environment
I’m especially passionate about working with folks who may feel intimidated by traditional yoga spaces, or who have felt excluded due to injury, illness, trauma, or body differences. I truly believe that yoga is for everyone — and that it can be a meaningful tool for grounding, resilience, and connection when it’s offered with care.
Teaching, Workshops & Collaboration
I currently teach select in-person classes in the Bloomington, Indiana area and work with community spaces and organizations that share my commitment to inclusivity and compassion.
In addition to ongoing classes, I sometimes offer:
Workshops and special events
Collaborative offerings with other practitioners
Community-based or themed practices designed to meet specific needs
These offerings vary and are shaped by capacity, timing, and shared values.
A Note on Availability
My teaching schedule is intentionally limited and evolves over time. While my primary focus is on community-based classes and collaborative offerings, I may occasionally offer private or small-group sessions by request, depending on availability.
